How to draw the room: walls, corners and sloping ceilings

Updated 30 October 2026

Everything in JoinerKit stands against a wall, so the room comes first. A new job opens on the room screen, with a picture of the room from above beside a row for each wall.

Step by step

  1. Pick the room's shape

Choose the shape nearest the room: One wall, Alcove, Corner, Three walls, Four walls or L-shaped room. You can change it later.

  2. Type the walls you measured

Type each wall's length and the ceiling height. Give the walls names if it helps, such as Chimney wall or Window wall.

  3. Set the corners

If the room isn't square, type a corner's angle or drag the corner on the picture. Dragging lines a corner up with the others; hold Shift to put it anywhere.

  4. Add a corner where a wall steps

Drag the dot halfway along a wall to put a corner in it. Right-click a wall or a corner (or press and hold it) to split a wall, take one away or make a corner square.

  5. Start designing

Press Start designing. The Room button beside the wall buttons brings the room screen back whenever you need it.

Chimney breasts, doors and windows

A chimney breast is in Add, under the finishing touches. It stands on its wall, units snap to its sides, and it can have recesses cut into it. Doors and windows are in Add too: each brings its own architrave, and skirting stops at them.

Sloping ceilings and dormers

On the Job tab, under This wall, open Sloping ceiling. Type where the slope meets the wall and its angle, or where the flat ceiling starts. Add dormers there too: flat, pitched or hipped. If the slope doesn't meet the wall at the same height all along, add a point where its line bends.

The front, side, plan and 3D views all show the slope. A unit that goes up through it is flagged, and its Fit under the ceiling button shapes it to the slope. There's more in the guide to fitted furniture under a sloping ceiling.

Changing the room later

  • The Room button opens the room screen again, with everything you've drawn kept on its wall.
  • On the Job tab, The room has the ceiling height and Change its shape; This wall has the wall in view's name and sizes.
  • In 3D, the picture's "..." menu has Move the room's corners, to drag them in the 3D view itself.

Questions

Can I draw just one wall?

Yes. Pick One wall for a single run of units. You can add walls later from the room screen.

How many walls can a room have?

Up to 24, at any angle. Walls are straight: curved walls aren't drawn yet.

What if a wall isn't square to the next?

Type the corner's angle on the room screen, or drag the corner. Skirting at an odd angle gets the saw angle for its mitre on the cutting list.
