How to get a cutting list and sheet layouts for a job

Updated 30 October 2026

Every part of every unit goes on the cutting list as you draw it, and JoinerKit lays the parts out on the sheets you buy. There's nothing to press: open the Cutting & cost tab.

Step by step

  1. Open Cutting & cost

In the job, pick the Cutting & cost tab in the panel beside the drawing (along the bottom on a phone). The totals come first: boards to buy, timber, glass, fittings and the total.

  2. Open a board or timber

Each board and timber is folded under its name, with how many to buy and the price. Open one for its cutting list: every part, its size, how many and what it's for.

  3. See the layouts

Press Show the sheet layouts to see each sheet drawn with its parts on it, or each length of timber with its pieces.

  4. Print it for the workshop

Press Workshop at the top of the job: drawings to scale, the cutting lists, the sheet layouts and the fittings, ready to print. Copy the lists puts them into a message as plain text.

What the layouts allow for

  • The saw cut between every part, and the trim off each sheet's edges: both in Settings, Cutting.
  • The grain: a board with grain is never turned, so every part keeps it running the right way.
  • Your sheet sizes: each board in Materials has its own length and width.
  • Your timber lengths: timber is cut from the lengths you buy (set on each timber in Materials). A piece longer than your longest length is made from two, never with a piece shorter than Settings' Shortest joined piece of timber.

More on this in the guide to saw kerf and sheet layouts.

Whole boards, or only the part used

Under the totals, The materials total counts lets you price the whole boards you have to buy, or only the part of each board the job uses, for when the offcuts go into the next job.

Fittings

Hinges (counted by each door's height), drawer runners at each drawer's length, handles, hanging rail, edge tape and the rest are listed and priced from Materials. Anything else the drawing doesn't count, such as legs or screws, goes in the Job tab's Other things to buy.

When a part won't fit a sheet

A part bigger than any sheet of its board is a red error, with an Auto fix button that splits the unit, adds a top box or uses a bigger sheet of the same board. Undo puts it back. See warnings and Auto fix.

Questions

Can I change the saw cut?

Yes, in Settings, Cutting: the saw cut (blade width), the trim off each sheet edge, and the shortest piece of timber it will join. Every job uses them.

Does the cutting list work in inches?

Yes. With sizes in inches (Settings, Country, money and sizes), the cutting list, layouts and drawings are all in inches, and timber is priced per foot.

Can I get the cutting list on my phone?

Open the same job on your phone: it's the same account. Or use Workshop's Copy the lists to paste the lists into a message or your notes.
